Born Lisburn, Northern I reland, just outside of Belfast.

1979
Lived in Brisbane, Australia for one year, Ironside State Primary School.
My swimming improves greatly.
1980
Back to Lisburn, one year of violin and being a swimming star
1981
Moved to Wilmslow, England. Fulshaw Primary School, wonderful school, loved the music and playing glokinspeil.
1982
Wlimslow High School, having a great time. Won the prize for the cover for the Fair Magazine, got scared by the expectations created by this. Played flute for the year.
1983
Emmigrated to Australia and started grade 9 at Brisbane Girls Grammar School, quite a culture shock!
1985
Inspired to invest more time in art by my grade 10 art teacher, Miss Tennant, and discovered I could draw well. Art became my sanctuary. Worked in Brumby’s Bakery on weekends.
1987
Did drawing, painting and sculpture majors in art. Won BGGS Senior Art Prize and BGGS Senior Painting Prize. Other subjects; physics, chemistry, biology, maths 1, English. TE Score 975. Having fun at Brumby’s.
1988
A year “off”. Started my waitressing career in Pizza Hut, York England, traveled a little. Returned to Brisbane during EXPO 88. Continued my waitressing career, fine dining at Rumpoles & Chevaliers restaurants.
1989-1992
Bachelor of Science at University of Queensland, majoring in biochemistry. Lost my faith in, and hope for, science. Waitressing at the Cats Tango and Chevaliers. Having a really fun time with friends from uni. Doing a bit of art, some life drawing and gouache nudes, mostly for presents. Went to Mc Gregor Art School.
1992-1993
Travelled in Asia, Africa, UK and Turkey, wonderful times. Some sketches.
1994-1995
Returned to Brisbane to “be sensible” (another culture shock!). Studied Post Graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics at Queensland University of Technology. Travelled to Weipa, Napranum and Lockhart River on a Community Nutrition student placement. Made “1995 Clay nude” whilst in Weipa. Prize for Clinical Dietetics, Prize for Community Nutrition, GPA 6.
1995
Clinical Dietitian at Princess Alexander Hospital (locum) and then got accepted for my dream job at Cherbourg, …… km from Kingaroy, 3 hours North West of Brisbane. Lived in Cherbourg for 7 months.
1995-1997
Great and challenging time as Community Nutritionist at Cherbourg. Really enjoying nature. Rented a great little house at Byee, doing some art. Carved “black beauty” from timber found in the bush, painted “wind spirit”, did some drawing and made art books in mixed media. Got to see Broome and the Dampier Peninsula on a conference trip.
1997
Returned to Brisbane, studying Massage Therapy and working at Brisbane North (FT) and then Brisbane South Indigenous Health (PT), realized I was burnt out, feeling despondent.
1998
Studying massage therapy and setting up my “studio” in Herston which was to run as a clinic for massage and dietetics and a space to make and sell art . Did a couple of market days trying to sell abstract art cards (mixed media). Worked as a volunteer for Karuna Hospice.
1999
Working at my studio and a medical centre, mostly doing Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage. Tuned in Reiki. Doing some art. Getting into the Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron.
2000
Went to a semester of Cert IV in Painting at Gateway TAFE. Worked as nutritionist PT at the Heart Foundation Qld.
2001
Got into pastels, what a delight, so quick and easy to use. Did lots of nudes and a few portraits. Working from photos of my friends. Got my first commission, and more.
• Two Rosalie Art Shows.
• Private “friends” exhibition, portraits of my friends from photos.
• Nice Nudes group exhibition at Freestyle Tout, Rosalie, Brisbane.
• A few nude and portrait commissions.
• Launch of website www.janesfineart.com and promotional postcards.
2002
Sept began selling my artwork at the famous Eumundi markets selling paintings and sculptures and offering commissioned portraits from photographs. Slow beginnings. Still working part time as a nutritionist.
2003
Part time job as Community Dietitian, Indigenous Health, Sunshine Coast until 30th June, then free flying as a full time artist supporting herself on her art. Birth of the beach portrait which evolved from doing paintings from other people’s photos and doing pastel sketches of Noosa beach scenes from my photos. Booked out for the rest of the year with commission work.
2004
Booked out all year with commissioned portraits, nudes and abstracts. Selling from my stall and website. A few group exhibitions.
2005
Booked out all year with commissioned portraits, nudes, and abstracts. Selling from my stall and website.
Tried to find someone suitable to enter a portrait into the Archibald, along with a sculpture into the Wynne and a painting into the Sulman….but didn’t. Discovered I was pregnant….wow!
Really enjoyed the Stone Sculpture Symposium at Maroochydore Botanic Gardens and University of the Sunshine Coast. Black Beauty participated in the group exhibition at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery.
Dec 28 birth of my first child Joel Evan Taylor. Born beautifully on the couch under the painting I painted for his birth. My greatest creation. Fell in love with him within a few hours, what a delight he is.
2006
2 months off learning mummying.
March-Dec back to the markets (Saturday am only), new spot in the center, with my partner Peter Taylor, Sculptor. Booked out all year with commissioned portraits and abstracts. I am very fortunate to have Peter who has chosen to be a fulltime Dad and enable me to keep my exciting ball rolling.
Really enjoyed “Star portraits” thanks to BBC and ABC and Rolf Harris, well done!
Feeling inspired to do more portraits from life.
2007
Continuing to be busy with commissions, mostly beach portraits (oil on
linen)....getting bigger and better.
Added a few more to the adorned, faces, nude and voluptuous moment series,
in my spare time (not much of that!).
First foray into body painting, participating in the inaugeral Australian
Body Art Carnivale, with my painting on Amber based on a rainbow lorikeet.
Won Prize for Painting in the concurrent Art of the Body Competition for my
painting "Autumnal dream".
Pregnant again, with Erin Luna Taylor born at home in October. Our small
house is now full.
2008
Back to commission work & the markets in January. Launching sale of
prints of my favourite works.
